For me, Thanksgiving brings on childhood memories of going to my Grandparents’ mobile home for a family dinner, sitting at the kids’ table with my brother and two cousins, eating until my belly was full, and then sitting around and talking. Or rather listening. While my brother and cousins used to play outside, I’d listen to the grown-ups talk. I was interested in their world, their stories.
Now I’m the grown-up. I’m the one in the kitchen.
Times change, but the importance of family never changes. Telling stories is also something we can count on.
This morning I read this verse, and it made me think of Thanksgiving:
Return to your home, and recount [the story] of how many and great things God has done for you. Luke 8:39
That’s what I’ll be doing–going “home” to the family God has given me and telling about the wonderful things He’s done.
Those are the best type of stories, after all … the ones where God gets the glory! Stories, in my opinion, are the best part of Thanksgiving. I’m thankful to be able to share them, and to hear them!
