10 Things I Wish I Knew About My Husband Being a Dad Before We Had Kids

1. Just because my husband and I have different views on parenting, doesn’t mean I’m right.

2. Kids aren’t as fragile as I’d like to think. If the baby’s smiling it’s okay if daddy’s playing airplane and/or super baby.

3. Sometimes dads aren’t sure what they’re suppose to do. Sometimes they feel it’s easier to do nothing than to try and fail.

4. Never talk disrespectfully about my husband to my child or in front of my child. (Actually if I don’t do it at all then that would solve the problem.)

5. The sugar cereal daddy buys won’t ruin a kid for life.

6. I need to give my husband the opportunity to do the right thing before reminding him to do it.

7. Don’t re-do something my husband’s done (dishes, kids’ baths), otherwise he’ll give up all together because of frustration.

8. If I act like I’m the only one who can meet the needs of my child, then my child and husband will think that too.

9. Sometimes the best thing I can do for my child is show his daddy how much I love him.

10. Listen when my husband has an idea about child rearing. It just might be a great one!

I have to say that I think it’s ironic that there’s a top ten list of how “right” a husband “might” be.

Cool post, I also think the opposite is true. Us husbands need to understand our wives as nurturer’s too. It’s sometimes hard for a wife to see a husband’s “rougher” interactions with a child growing into manhood when she feels like she just spent all those years nurturing them.
