Gift Giving: 22 Things Money Can’t Buy

While we’re shelling out that cash for Christmas gifts, take a moment to think about giving things money can’t buy. I asked my friends on Facebook for ideas,  and here are the great ones they came up with!

Tricia Goyer shares 22 things money can't buy

22 Things Money Can’t Buy

1. “Write a prayer for someone. James 5:15-17” — Andrea Bowling Perdue

2. “I’m working on an advent project. I made an advent calendar for our family a few years ago and am making one as a gift for some dear friends.” — Erin Bishop

3. “A card of encouragement. Proverbs 12:25” — Heather Aron Clement

4. “Meet the need of someone. Proverbs 31:20” — Andrea Bowling Perdue

5. “The love of her children and husband. Proverbs 31:28” — Penny Raine

6. “A compliment or praise. Proverbs 27:2” — Jennifer Stutesman Crevier

7. “A shoulder to lean on. Galatians 6:2” — Heather Aron Clement

8. “Write a letter of encouragement. Proverbs 10:21 a” — Andrea Bowling Perdue

9. “Forgiveness. Matthew 6:12” — Jennifer Stutesman Crevier

10. “I have a dear friend who is in a wheelchair. One year, my Christmas gift to her was an oven cleaning. I went to her house and cleaned her oven, something that she’s not able to do. We had a great time, visiting over coffee while I scrubbed.” —Diane Day

11. “Inner peace. Psalms 46:10” — Cindi Hoppes

12. “I think taking an elderly person around to do errands, etc., such as pay bills, grocery shopping, or even take them to lunch. Give freely.” — Angie Kay Webb

13. “Encouragement, specifically for the oppressed. Isaiah 1:17” — Diana Savage

14. “Addressing Christmas cards for seniors or veterans.” — Donna Clark Goodrich

15. “Today I saw a man buy a woman’s groceries. Her husband recently died; she didn’t have enough cash and was embarrassed. She cried, thanked him, and shared how kind her husband was when he was alive. I cried, the lady behind him cried. Proverbs 22:9” — Melissa Mason

16. “Acceptance. Elisabeth Elliot said, ‘In acceptance lieth peace.'” — Kelly Thompson

17. “A memory jar. Actually, we did this for my husband and it didn’t cost anything but had huge impact.” — Kathleen Y’Barbo Turner

18. “We took our brownie troop to deliver stuffed animals to the nursing home one year, and a man cried and then said thank you. The nurse said it was the first time he had spoken since his wife had died several years earlier. I don’t know who was blessed more, us or him . . . but I know my girls will never forget it. My son, who never knew his father, was only four at the time and crawled up in the man’s lap. It was a moment I will forever cherish as the old man held on to him as tightly as my son did. I guess my verse would be to ‘Do unto others are you would have them do unto you,’ or perhaps one that says to honor the old. I would love to think if I am ever old and alone that someone would remember me at Christmas and any other time, too.” — Cheri Horgan

19. “Time spent with someone. Just a visit!” — Rhonda Gayle Nash-Hall

20. “Wisdom. Proverbs 8:11” — Nancee Marchinowski

21. “Make a ‘coupon’ book to redeem with ways to serve one another or do their favorite things, etc.” — Charlotte Driver

22. “Give honor to your parents in word or deed or presence. By doing so we fulfill the word of God.” — Rebekah Craig

How about you, do you have something to add to this list of things that money can’t buy?

Don’t forget baking is a great gift from the heart.

We went to the internet and searched for Roofing Salt Lake City.
    * When the base sheeting is coated with the aluminium and zinc alloy
only, that is no further coloured coatings, it does look similar to the old galvanised iron,
but it does not have the spangled effect. You’ll want to talk to
a specialist Chicago roofing contractors association.

Although all of the ideas are very good, I took note of the memory jar, no. 17. Now in our senior years, being married for 47 years, having cared for many children needing help, adopting 9 of them, and inviting two Grandmas to live with us, along with community investment makes the life stories endless. The memory jar would be a wonderful way to capture stories, as a literary picture album. Likely a treasure for the children that will be enjoyed beyond our years.
