It’s official. We have a new favorite Bible storybook: The Preschooler’s Bible by V. Gilbert Beers.
Why?
1. I have a preschooler.
2. I have a preschooler who grabbed it up as soon as she saw it.
3. I have a preschooler who grabbed it up as soon as she saw it and asked me to read, “More, more!”
What I love is this Bible doesn’t try to retell the whole Bible story. It tells just enough for your child to understand the basic story in an introduction of sorts. I also loved how Alyssa’s eyes grew wide as she connected the stories she heard at Sunday School or Bible Study with this book. “I know Jacob and Esau!” she told me. When she hears the stories from different places, I know they’ll connect with her heart.
My favorite parts, though, are the questions. “If Daniel prays, he can be thrown into a den of hungry lions. Will Daniel stop praying now? Would you?”
Also, the book reads to the child. It’s not telling stories. It’s telling stories to him or her. “God may never talk to you the way He talked to Samuel. But He does talk to us through the Bible. Are you listening?”
All of these add up to a great Christmas gift for a toddler in your life. My guess is that you’ll hear, “More, more!”
