ADOPTION
John and I were never one of those couples who had talked about someday adopting. We had three kids at a young age, and we thought we’d be those young empty nesters who’d be able to travel the world while we were still young. Then came adoption.
God put the idea on my heart first. I remember reading a news story about baby girls from China who needed homes and thought, We could do that. It took many years of praying and thinking about it before John came around, but once God put adoption on our hearts it changed everything.
John and I have adopted seven kids, and it’s been both hard and wonderful. It’s not easy opening one’s home, especially to kids from hard places, but we’re so glad we did. These are 100% our kids, and we wouldn’t trade them for the world.
If you feel your heart stirring toward adoption know it’s for a reason.
James 1:27 says, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
God desires us to care for the orphans and widows. He wants to show them His love through us. Our children’s lives have forever been changed because of our choice … and my life has been too, in a wonderful way.
