I’m so excited to announce that the first book in my Big Sky Amish series, Beside Still Waters, releases this month! The official release date is the 15th, but it’s available now at Amazon!
Marianna Sommer believes she knows where her life is headed. Nineteen years old and Amish, her plan is to get baptized into the church, marry Aaron Zook, and live in the only community she’s ever known.
When Marianna’s family moves from Indiana to Montana she discovers life and faith will never be the same. As she builds an easy friendship with local guy, Ben Stone, Ben not only draws her heart, he also gets her thinking about what loving God and living in community is all about.
As Marianna struggles to find “home”, she also encounters God in intimate ways. Watch the trailer here.

I love to read about the Amish as they have such a quiet way of life. I know they have stress, but they really trust in God. It is also the way Trica writes about them that makes their life so very real. I am looking forward to reading her newest book.
Thanks much
many, MANY things intrique me about the Amish, but I think the most is just their simple way of life, and how they put their family first, and depend on God for all their needs. Hard work isnt a stranger to them-their lives depend on it, and they depend on each person to do their job(s) so that the whole family can work. If we could adopt their way of living, families would be so much closer. *megan mai
I love the Amish people. They truly live their faith. Their ability to forgive and live the simple life is amazing to me. They truly know that God is in charge and look to him for all their needs. We visit Paradise PA each Sept. and last year went to Holmes County, Ohio, This summer we plan to visit the Amish Communities in Indiana. A good driving holiday from Ontario, Canada.

I think what intrigues me about the Amish is how content they seem to be once they’ve made the choice to “live Amish.” And though I love technology and all the wonderful opportunities it provides, part of me also longs to strip away the trappings and live a simpler life. So I guess what I’d really like is a never-ending free weekend pass to an Amish Inn. Then I could enjoy the life style yet return to my life whenever I wish. It would probably be a great place to write!
Simplicity. That’s what I admire about the Amish.
I would love the chance to get Beside still waters. I went to facebook to like It and will do also at goodreads! Thanks! Deborah Hardt
What I love best about the Amish is their simplicity and commitment to live not as the world lives.
Tricia, I like the quit faith that the Amish have and how they come together to hepl one another to build and such! I would love to win beside still waters!
I am in awe of the Amish. They are some of the most hard working people around. I wouldn’t last a day in their shoes.
Thanks for this chance to win!
What I like about the Amish is their community devotion to God and the old ways. It is inspiring.
I love the book and can’t wait to share my thoughts in my review! Thanks Tricia! You did a great job!

Not a contest entry. Just a quick message to tell you how proud I am of you, Tricia, and how excited I am about the first book in this series. I know it will be a HUGE success!

We use to live in an Amish area eventually had many friends in the community. The kindness and friendship they shared with me and my family is something I will never forget!
I live in Michigan near several Amish communities. The midwife that delivered one of our children also delivers for the Amish. I’ve had an interest in them for many years and will talk to them. When they hear I have a dozen children, the women seem to be more open in talking. Enjoyed this book (got it to review)
I grew up in Wester Pennsylvania Amish Country North of Pittsburgh. I admire the Amish for their simple lifestyle, their hard work ethic, the importance of family life and church, and their choice to stay the way it has been for years! I love reading the Amish stories because it allows me to be apart of their community and lifestyle for short periods of reading times which become mini-vacations for me. I also learn so much more about them then I did living among them! THANK YOU!
I think what appeals to me most is their strong sense of family and faith. I agree these are vital and should be a priority in everyone’s life, but life in our modern society sometimes intervenes.

Modesty by far is one of my favorite things that I love about the Amish. They take great care in making sure they’re covered!

I love how clever the Amish are in the ways they figure out how to fun houses without electricity. It’s very interesting to find out!

I think what I like about the Amish, from the little I know about them, is the way they live in a modern and overly technological world and still maintain the simple life and their faith in God.
(I already follow you on Twitter – and msg’d you back – and I tweeted about the book .. which I would like to read, by the way.:) )
I love the amish laid back life style.

I am impressed with the Amish faith and sense of family, not only within their immediate family but within their community. They also make beautiful quilts.

I love reading anything Amish. I think it’s the simple life the Amish live that appeals to me. They don’t seem to be in such a hurry with all the busy stuff that we are. Would love to read this book. Thanks for the giveaway.

Hi, Tricia – One of my friends read one of your other books and talked about it over on Amish Living, so I ‘m looking forward to reading your new one. The thing I most admire about the Amish, besides their incredible baking skills, is their refusal to let the mess of the modern world to complicate their lives more than necessary. I don’t choose to be Amish – I couldn’t handle summers without air conditioning very graciously, I’m afraid. I’m spoiled. But I do believe that we can take the things that inspire us from the Amish and incorporate them in our daily lives. For me, that has meant much more careful television watching, movie watching, music listening and internet perusal. It has also meant a renewed dedication to taking care of my home and my Handsome Husband and developing closer ties to my family, keeping letters going back and forth to my grandparents, etc. All of those things are inspired in part by my study and love of the Amish. (And like I said, having grown up around the Amish, how can you NOT admire their baking skills. Oh. My. Yum.)
Thanks for the chance to win! 🙂

the old in the new…handmade…companionship with neighbors…commitment to beliefs…extreme love of family and community…inspirations to a world in too much of a hurry
thanks for the opportunity; such a good book to have on my ‘to be read’ list 🙂
I think I like the sameness of the Amish. Everyone’s the same and there’s no competition between peers. Sometimes I wish my life was like that.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Emreilly303(at)gmail(dot)com
I agree with many of the comments above. The Amish just have something about them that’s captivating. But, for me, it’s the fact that, from the outside at least, everyone looks like they’re accepted. No matter what you look like, fat, thin, short, tall everyone’s looked upon the same. It’s just wonderful!
Dreilly316(at)gmail(dot)com
I probably like that they’re so hardworking. I’ve heard many people say that you can tell an Amish farm from an English farm because it’s so much cleaner. I admire they’re hard work ethic.
Jreilly316(at)verizon(dot)net
There is a very small Amish Community about 2 hours from where

When I lived in Dublin, OH I remember seeing a lot of Amish people. I like how Amish people like country living and I love eating at Amish restaurants!
I like the simplicity of life and faith the Amish have. Though we have many modern conveniences I wouldn’t want to give up, I sometimes wonder if they’ve come at a high price (busyness, stress, financial worries, etc.).
Congratulations on your new book! I watched the trailer;it looks fascinating.

I love reading books about the Amish because I live amongst them! I live in upstate NY and I don’t think people realize just how many Amish communities there are here. I shop at a local Amish market and a large Mennonite store (they are both great) It is an everyday thing to see buggies going down the street. For some people reading Amish books are interesting because they have never seen anything like this but for me it is like reading about home!
Thank you for your great book!
Thank you everyone! I appreciate you sooooo much!
I had a dear friend and co-worker who grew up Amish in Sugarcreek, Ohio – she use to tell me lots of stories. I especially loved to hear about quilting & how important family was. Sadly she passed away 3 yrs. ago of breast cancer. After she died, I discovered Amish Fiction – I love reading about all of the different communities.

I live in a home built by my Hubby’s Great Grandfather, and I think the Amish culture reminds me a lot of what life was here back in the 1850’s. I love how their Community comes together to help in times of need.
What appeals most about the Amish to me besides the morals they have and love for God, I appreciate all the food I have tried. This may sounds lame, but some of the best food I ate was from my Amish friend Lisa. She made everything herself, and it was well worth it. She has since passed and I miss her and her cooking.

Thank you for a lovely giveaway! I am very intrigued by the story of Marianna and her family. “Transformation is slow, but God’s hand is sure from the beginning, and their lives are set free from things they never knew bound them.” I have seen this happen in my own life, and I would love to see how this comes to play in the story line of “Beside Still Waters”. It often takes a fresh set of eyes to open our own!

I love the Amish way of life. It never ceases to amaze me how they live with no electricity. They farm thier own gardens, acreage, etc. and break thier own horses. They go back to the old lifestyle of farming where you even milk your own goats, cows and make your own cheeses and butters with them. They even do beekeeping for honey. All of this just amazes me and is a truly awesome scene to partake of. So, to read stories written of them is another awesome fact that amazes me because it means there are others out there who love them just as much. Thanks for writing about them and offereing an awesome book! I look forward to reading your book, one way or another.

I love how the Amish have such a close knit community of family and friends.
I am glad you are writing Amish stories, Tricia! It is one of my favorite genres. Is this your first Amish series?
I love the Amish stories, and have read almost all of Beverly Lewis’ books. I have always been interested in their simple ways. How they live off the land and keep simple homes and keep their lives uncomplicated with modern things. But I have been saddened as I think of how all that simplicity is almost like a facade when it comes down to their religion, which seems to me to very complicated and weighted down as can be!
I pray they will come to know that incomparable freedom that comes from truly making themselves “at home in Christ.”
Amish stories written from the perspective of believers in Jesus are the best! So, if I don’t win your drawing, I will be looking for your book for sure!
The Lord bless you for all you do!
congratulations on your book! I have several former Amish friends who attend our church. The stories of their “simple” childhoods are fascinating … but their coming out of the Amish & finding a real relationship w/ God (not based on works) is even more fascinating.
What I like about the Amish is their simple way of living and how close-knit they are.
The Amish appeal to me because they’ve managed to stick to their way of life despite all of the temptations around them. They deserve a lot of credit for managing to maintain their way of life and living for God.

I think the Amish unwavering faith in God is what most appeals to me.
The Amish are fascinating to me–their unhurried simplicity and willingness to live in such stark contrast to those around them. They are strong!
As I get older and life gets more complicated, the ways of the Amish become more appealing. I’ve bought two Amish cookbooks, and I love to read the stories of family, God, and straightforward Christian faith. I feel like my own childhood was simple and innocent, which aligns with much of what the Amish believe. I’m still working on cooking like the Amish, but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to read the book and get a hold of those darling S&P shakers! 🙂
I live in Ohio where there are many Amish in our community. Although the Amish are somewhat romanticized in fictional stories, they do have a deep seated reliance on God – something we should all take with us in our daily lives.
What appeals to me most about Amish living is the simplicity of it! I would love to live in such a way that I am self sufficient & so close to nature, family & the environment!!

I, too, like the idea of the simple life of the Amish. I also like seeing thei horse and buggy coming down the road (we don’t live too far from an Amish community.) 🙂

The Amish always fascinated me for years.
Their way of life is so simple and they do well without all the necessaties that we think we have to have now adays.

I love reading books about Amish people. I admire their simple ways, commitment to family and community and how they cook everything from scratch. Can’t wait to read your book!

I think the main thing I like about the Amish is living life with contentment.
liked you on facebook 😉
I love the commitment to God the Plain people have. To be separate from the things of this world. They have strong family ties, work hard, and enjoy life.
What appeals to me about the Amish is how in many ways they have stripped away everything that takes them away from God and family. There also is a sense of community that I think we are missing in today’s society. So many of us don’t know more than the names of a few people around us, and have no more contact than the wave of a hand as we pass by. I also confess to a love of all things ‘old fashioned’ and the Amish way of dress and transportation seems to take me back in time to what it might have been like to live in those ‘old fashioned’ days. So for me these are the main things that interest or draw me to the Amish.
I will keep checking in to see if I was blessed enough to win a copy of your book and these adorable salt and pepper shakers! 🙂 Not to mention I like seeing what you might be writing next!
I admire the sense of community among the Amish. It’s amazing to me how they all come together to help and support one another. I also envy their lack of distraction from what is really important in life.
Hi Tricia,

I went to a Christian school (sixteen students total) surrounded by an Amish community. I always found them so friendly as well as facinating. And they sure can bake. In fact, I went to a restaurant on Monday that is run by Mennonnites (okay, so not Amish, but similar!)

What I like about the Amish way of life is the simplicity of life, like a lot of commenters have stated! Even though it is plain and simple, it’s a LOT of work! We can’t forget that! The farming, harvesting, preserving the food, etc.
I am following you on Twitter.
I twitted the reference to your book twice, accidentally!! That’s okay! 2 ads!!
I like you on Facebook
I like the Giveaway here on your site!
The only thing I didn’t do yet is get and read the book. I’m disabled-in a wheelchair-can’t walk but a few steps, so I have to rely on other people, or Amazon! I’ll have to do that!
Hope I win!!! I LOVE reading these books! I love your writing style!
Thanks!

I think at times I would like to live life like the Amish. Believing and trusting in others and helping each other out – life would be so much better

What appeals to me about the Amish is the simplicity of it all. Not having to compete with the Joneses

I grew up just outside Belleville, PA, and we had several Amish friends. They were all so nice, kind, down-to-earth, and had their priorities in the right place. That’s what I admire most of all.
