Beside Still Waters Giveaway

I’m so excited to announce that the first book in my Big Sky Amish series, Beside Still Waters, releases this month! The official release date is the 15th, but it’s available now at Amazon!

Marianna Sommer believes she knows where her life is headed. Nineteen years old and Amish, her plan is to get baptized into the church, marry Aaron Zook, and live in the only community she’s ever known.

When Marianna’s family moves from Indiana to Montana she discovers life and faith will never be the same. As she builds an easy friendship with local guy, Ben Stone, Ben not only draws her heart, he also gets her thinking about what loving God and living in community is all about.

As Marianna struggles to find “home”, she also encounters God in intimate ways. Watch the trailer here.

I love to read about the Amish as they have such a quiet way of life. I know they have stress, but they really trust in God. It is also the way Trica writes about them that makes their life so very real. I am looking forward to reading her newest book.

    Thanks much

many, MANY things intrique me about the Amish, but I think the most is just their simple way of life, and how they put their family first, and depend on God for all their needs. Hard work isnt a stranger to them-their lives depend on it, and they depend on each person to do their job(s) so that the whole family can work. If we could adopt their way of living, families would be so much closer. *megan mai

I love the Amish people. They truly live their faith. Their ability to forgive and live the simple life is amazing to me. They truly know that God is in charge and look to him for all their needs. We visit Paradise PA each Sept. and last year went to Holmes County, Ohio, This summer we plan to visit the Amish Communities in Indiana. A good driving holiday from Ontario, Canada.

I think what intrigues me about the Amish is how content they seem to be once they’ve made the choice to “live Amish.” And though I love technology and all the wonderful opportunities it provides, part of me also longs to strip away the trappings and live a simpler life. So I guess what I’d really like is a never-ending free weekend pass to an Amish Inn. Then I could enjoy the life style yet return to my life whenever I wish. It would probably be a great place to write!

I live in Michigan near several Amish communities. The midwife that delivered one of our children also delivers for the Amish. I’ve had an interest in them for many years and will talk to them. When they hear I have a dozen children, the women seem to be more open in talking. Enjoyed this book (got it to review)

I grew up in Wester Pennsylvania Amish Country North of Pittsburgh. I admire the Amish for their simple lifestyle, their hard work ethic, the importance of family life and church, and their choice to stay the way it has been for years! I love reading the Amish stories because it allows me to be apart of their community and lifestyle for short periods of reading times which become mini-vacations for me. I also learn so much more about them then I did living among them! THANK YOU!

Hi, Tricia – One of my friends read one of your other books and talked about it over on Amish Living, so I ‘m looking forward to reading your new one. The thing I most admire about the Amish, besides their incredible baking skills, is their refusal to let the mess of the modern world to complicate their lives more than necessary. I don’t choose to be Amish – I couldn’t handle summers without air conditioning very graciously, I’m afraid. I’m spoiled. But I do believe that we can take the things that inspire us from the Amish and incorporate them in our daily lives. For me, that has meant much more careful television watching, movie watching, music listening and internet perusal. It has also meant a renewed dedication to taking care of my home and my Handsome Husband and developing closer ties to my family, keeping letters going back and forth to my grandparents, etc. All of those things are inspired in part by my study and love of the Amish. (And like I said, having grown up around the Amish, how can you NOT admire their baking skills. Oh. My. Yum.)

Thanks for the chance to win! 🙂

I love reading books about the Amish because I live amongst them! I live in upstate NY and I don’t think people realize just how many Amish communities there are here. I shop at a local Amish market and a large Mennonite store (they are both great) It is an everyday thing to see buggies going down the street. For some people reading Amish books are interesting because they have never seen anything like this but for me it is like reading about home!

I am very intrigued by the story of Marianna and her family. “Transformation is slow, but God’s hand is sure from the beginning, and their lives are set free from things they never knew bound them.” I have seen this happen in my own life, and I would love to see how this comes to play in the story line of “Beside Still Waters”. It often takes a fresh set of eyes to open our own!

I love the Amish way of life. It never ceases to amaze me how they live with no electricity. They farm thier own gardens, acreage, etc. and break thier own horses. They go back to the old lifestyle of farming where you even milk your own goats, cows and make your own cheeses and butters with them. They even do beekeeping for honey. All of this just amazes me and is a truly awesome scene to partake of. So, to read stories written of them is another awesome fact that amazes me because it means there are others out there who love them just as much. Thanks for writing about them and offereing an awesome book! I look forward to reading your book, one way or another.

(And after the Amish school shooting, I was very impressed with the example of forgivenss shown by the Amish community toward the shooter. That was amazing.)

I am glad you are writing Amish stories, Tricia! It is one of my favorite genres. Is this your first Amish series?

I love the Amish stories, and have read almost all of Beverly Lewis’ books. I have always been interested in their simple ways. How they live off the land and keep simple homes and keep their lives uncomplicated with modern things. But I have been saddened as I think of how all that simplicity is almost like a facade when it comes down to their religion, which seems to me to very complicated and weighted down as can be!
I pray they will come to know that incomparable freedom that comes from truly making themselves “at home in Christ.”
Amish stories written from the perspective of believers in Jesus are the best! So, if I don’t win your drawing, I will be looking for your book for sure!
The Lord bless you for all you do!

I’ve bought two Amish cookbooks, and I love to read the stories of family, God, and straightforward Christian faith. I feel like my own childhood was simple and innocent, which aligns with much of what the Amish believe. I’m still working on cooking like the Amish, but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to read the book and get a hold of those darling S&P shakers! 🙂

What appeals to me about the Amish is how in many ways they have stripped away everything that takes them away from God and family. There also is a sense of community that I think we are missing in today’s society. So many of us don’t know more than the names of a few people around us, and have no more contact than the wave of a hand as we pass by. I also confess to a love of all things ‘old fashioned’ and the Amish way of dress and transportation seems to take me back in time to what it might have been like to live in those ‘old fashioned’ days. So for me these are the main things that interest or draw me to the Amish.

I will keep checking in to see if I was blessed enough to win a copy of your book and these adorable salt and pepper shakers! 🙂 Not to mention I like seeing what you might be writing next!

I went to a Christian school (sixteen students total) surrounded by an Amish community. I always found them so friendly as well as facinating. And they sure can bake. In fact, I went to a restaurant on Monday that is run by Mennonnites (okay, so not Amish, but similar!)

What I like about the Amish way of life is the simplicity of life, like a lot of commenters have stated! Even though it is plain and simple, it’s a LOT of work! We can’t forget that! The farming, harvesting, preserving the food, etc.
I am following you on Twitter.
I twitted the reference to your book twice, accidentally!! That’s okay! 2 ads!!
    I like you on Facebook
I like the Giveaway here on your site!
The only thing I didn’t do yet is get and read the book. I’m disabled-in a wheelchair-can’t walk but a few steps, so I have to rely on other people, or Amazon! I’ll have to do that!
Hope I win!!! I LOVE reading these books! I love your writing style!
    Thanks!

I think at times I would like to live life like the Amish. Believing and trusting in others and helping each other out – life would be so much better

What appeals to me about the Amish is the simplicity of it all. Not having to compete with the Joneses

I grew up just outside Belleville, PA, and we had several Amish friends. They were all so nice, kind, down-to-earth, and had their priorities in the right place. That’s what I admire most of all.
