Books to Inspire You to Be Strong, Be Brave, And Feel Loved

Today I want to share with you some of my favorite books to inspire you to be strong, be brave, and feel loved.  These are tough times, full of stress and abnormality but these books are sure to encourage you!

Author Tricia Goyer shares some of her favorite books to inspire you to be strong, be brave, and feel loved!
I was so inspired by Holley Gerth’s new book Strong, Brave, Loved. I interviewed Holley last week on Walk It Out. Holley’s devotional book is the one I’m using during my morning quiet time. I also find myself quoting Holley in my Legacy Bible that I’m creating for one of my daughters.  This got me thinking about sharing more books to inspire you…

Need other great books to inspire you to feel Strong, Brave, Loved? These are my top recommendations!

Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis

The New York Times bestselling account of a courageous eighteen-year-old from Nashville who gave up every comfort and convenience to become the adoptive mother to thirteen girls in Uganda.
“People from my first home say I’m brave. They tell me I’m strong. They pat me on the back and say, ‘Way to go. Good job.’ But the truth is, I am not really very brave; I am not really very strong, and I am not doing anything spectacular. I am simply doing what God has called me to do as a person who follows Him. He said to feed His sheep and He said to care for ‘the least of these,’ so that’s what I’m doing, with the help of a lot of people who make it possible and in the company of those who make my life worth living”
― Katie J. Davis, Kisses from Katie: A Story of Relentless Love and Redemption

Life, In Spite of Me by Kristen Jane Anderson

Overwhelmed by wave after wave of emotional trauma, Kristen Anderson no longer wanted to live. One January night, determined to end her pain once and for all, the seventeen-year-old lay across train tracks not far from her home and waited to die.
Instead of peace, she found herself immersed in a whole new nightmare.
Before the engineer could bring the train to a stop, thirty-three freight cars passed over her at fifty-five miles per hour. After the train stopped and Kristen realized she was still alive, she looked around—and saw her legs ten feet away.
Surviving her suicide attempt but losing her legs launched Kristen into an even deeper battle with depression and suicidal thoughts, as well as unrelenting physical pain—all from the seat of a wheelchair. But in the midst of her darkest days, Kristen discovered the way to real life and a purpose for living.
For anyone struggling to find the strength to go on, the message of this heart-wrenching yet hope-building book is a clear and extraordinary reminder that even when we give up on life, God doesn’t give up on us.

Plain Faith: A Story of Tragedy, Loss and Leaving the Amish by Ora Jay and Irene Eash

This is the true story of Ora-Jay and Irene Eash, Amish farmers from northwest Montana whose lives changed in an instant when a semi-truck struck the family buggy, killing their two young daughters.
After the accident, the couple turned to their Amish community for comfort. Yet, they remained haunted by the thought that they might not see their girls again in heaven. Would their deeds be good enough? Eventually, Ora-Jay and Irene learned that grace―not works―was enough to ensure their place in eternity. But with that knowledge came the realization that they could no longer live in an Amish community that didn’t share this precious belief. Could they sever their connection to the Amish family they loved?
This is the story of their journey to the hope that is heaven, a hope stronger than the loss of children, family, and a way of life. Fans of Amish fiction will appreciate such a real-life look into the Amish community, co-written by bestselling author Tricia Goyer, and readers of all kinds will resonate with this tale of courage, resilience, and the redemption found in the grace of Jesus.

Walk to Beautiful: The Power of Love and a Homeless Kid Who Found the Way by Jimmy Wayne

Imagine yourself a thirteen-year-old, hundreds of miles away from home, in a strange city, and your mom leaves you at a bus station parking lot and drives off into the night with her lover.
That’s the real-life story of country music star Jimmy Wayne. It’s a miracle that Jimmy survived being hungry and homeless, bouncing in and out of the foster care system, and sleeping in the streets. But he didn’t just overcome great adversity in his life. He now uses his country music platform to help children everywhere, especially teenagers in foster care who are about to age out of the system.
Walk to Beautiful is the powerfully emotive account of Jimmy’s horrendous childhood and the love shown him by Russell and Bea Costner, the elderly couple who gave him a stable home and provided the chance to complete his education. Jimmy says of Bea, “She changed every cell in my body.”
It also chronicles Jimmy’s rise to fame in the music industry and his Meet Me Halfway campaign: his walk halfway across America, 1,700 miles from Nashville to Phoenix, to raise awareness for foster kids.

The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom

“Every experience God gives us . . . is the perfect preparation for the future only He can see.”–Corrie ten Boom
If you haven’t read this before, of course, this is a must-have in my list of books to inspire you.
Corrie ten Boom was a Dutch watchmaker who became a heroine of the Resistance, a survivor of Hitler’s concentration camps. She is one of the most remarkable evangelists of the twentieth century. In World War II she and her family risked their lives to help Jews and underground workers escape from the Nazis. For their work, they were tested in the infamous Nazi death camps. Only Corrie among her family survived to tell the story of how faith ultimately triumphs over evil.
This is the riveting account of how Corrie and her family were able to save many of God’s chosen people. For 35 years millions have seen that there is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still. Now The Hiding Place has been repackaged for a new generation of readers. It continues to declare that God’s love will overcome, heal, and restore.
Enjoy these great books to inspire you, and tell me about your favorites!
