Interested in Writing a Novel but Don’t Know Where to Start? It’s as Easy as 1-2-3.

1. Check out the Christian Writer’s Market Guide. This book will tell you what publishers are looking for—what types of books and articles they want. It tells you who to contact and what they’d like to see (complete manuscript, proposal, etc.).

2. Join ACFW. It’s an awesome organization of writers who help one another. And if you are really serious about getting a book published, attend a writer’s conference. ACFW will have a conference in September (details are here). I also highly recommend the Mt. Hermon Writer’s Conference. The classes are great, but connecting with other authors and editors—and getting feedback on your manuscript—is so worth it!

3. Reader writers’ and agents’ blogs. You’ll so much. My favorites are Books and Such, Steve LaubeAgency, Seekerville, and My Book Therapy. Don’t only read them, but also leave comments and insert yourself into the Christian writing community. Other writers, agents, and editors will take notice.

These seem like simple steps, but if you follow them, you’ll be ahead of 99% of pre-published authors out there!
