I’m going to try to do a better job at sharing books I love. I usually read them, let out a big sigh, and then go on to the next book . . . but writers need to support each other, right?!
These are two books I finished this week that I loved. (I say “finished” because I literally read about twenty-five books at a time—my reading mood changes more than Katy Perry’s hair.)
Tales of the Not Forgotten by Beth Guckenerger
I started reading this book because I was interviewing Beth on my radio show, Living Inspired. You can listen to my interview with Beth here.
This book is written for preteens, but don’t let that stop you from reading it. Beth has a ministry called Back2Back, which serves ministries who serve orphans around the world. The stories in this book are A.MAZ.ING. They are the stories you tell your family over dinner, and even though you don’t get much of the facts right and miss many of the cool details, you still make them cry.
IF you have a preteen, check it out. IF you work with preteens, check it out. It’ll open their eyes to the world and how God weaves our stories with others’ to impact lives.
Seasons: A Real Story of an Amish Girl by Elizabeth Byler Younts
I met Elizabeth more than two years ago at ACFW when she approached and told me she loved my radio show, Living Inspired, and she listened to it while she did her chores. At the time I wasn’t sure anyone listened to my show, so I loved her immediately. (She also has a sweet personality which is wonderful, too.)
Elizabeth gave me a copy of her book, Seasons. I read a little of the book, and then I interviewed Elizabeth here.
It wasn’t until last month that I remembered I’d only read a few chapters, so I picked up the book again and got fully absorbed in it. It’s a true story about Elizabeth’s Amish grandmother who grew up during the depression. It reminded me of the Little House books, only different.
If you enjoy Amish novels, you’ll enjoy this book. If you enjoy biographies, you’ll enjoy this book.
Elizabeth also blogs with me at Not Quite Amish. We’d love if you’d join us there!
Happy reading, friends!
Thanks for the reading recommendations – I will definitely add them to my reading list 🙂
I too am gonna find this book and read it…sounds quite good…..
I have Tales of the Not Forgotten sitting on my shelf waiting for me to read and review soon. My nine-year-old has already devoured it, so I can’t wait!
