Make a date this week!

John and I went away recently for Family Life’s Weekend to Remember. We had a fantastic time at the conference, but I have to say my favorite part was just being with John—talking, laughing, enjoying TIME together.

John and I try to do regular date nights, 3-4 a month. Lately, we’ve been going out to Saturday morning breakfasts and talking about our lives, marriage, dreams, etc. It cost about $10… not bad for quality time.

Here are some things other couples like to do on their dates:

Meredith: “My husband and I love to go to one of our close-by bookstores and peruse books and drink hot chocolate or chai and have a snack. It’s our “happy place.” :-)”

Lisa: coffee around a fire ring at a quaint coffee house

Steph: We like taking walks – doesn’t matter if it’s a store, street or field – so we can talk. If we don’t have specifics to talk about we make up what our dream house would look like or what we would do if we spent a month in a random foreign country or something like that. 5 years & 2 little boys later and we’re still learning about each other every week!”

Angela: A night at the ballet. Usually to watch our daughter, but its nice to get REALLY dressed up, sit in the audience w him, a nice glass of wine at intermission….even if she’s in the car on the ride home. :)”

Makasha: We like to have dinner then ride around to talk.”

Shelli: I’m not sure it is our favorite, but a common one is to have dinner at Costco and people watch. 🙂

Martha: We go on dates usually twice a year and we enjoy them! We go to Dairy Queen and then to the mall for clearance clothes shopping, (my husband loves to buy clothes). For our anniversary we usually go out to dinner……so we do not do date nights really, but I am happy with our two every year!”

Hannah: We like to go hand out at Half-Price Books and maybe hit the dollar movie theater. Either that or for stay-at home dates, we watch old tv episodes (get the seasons through netflix) and a frozen pizza. 😀 We’re both what you might call a cheap date!”

Rhonda: Having an actual conversation

Katie: Taking a long walk in a new place or parking the car and taking a city bus on an adventure!

Doug: We designed our dream house once. That was fun. Also enjoy cooking together

Ann: We usually have to have at-home dates after kids go to bed, so board and card games are lots of fun for us.

Melissa: We have young kids so a quiet date night = jammies, cuddling, & a movie. more energetic = dinner & maybe playing a board game.

JenniLee: We love to hang out at Barnes and Nobles and drink Starbucks while reading our favorite magazines.

Allison: Going to the bookstore, hanging out and reading books there.

Cameron: We just started the great date experiment from northpoint church. They are awesome!

Candace: We valet free at Grand Calif. Hotel, eat at Storytellers Cafe, walk out into Downtown Disney with lights, live music, fireworks!! TIVO favs for a marathon, get fav concessions, alternate watch comedy & drama marathon in jammies!

Alaina: We have got to the movies, dinner – but my fav is just going and walking around a store. just talking the whole time.

Diana: We luv to have date night at home after kids are in bed. We wait & make dinner together and then eat & watch a movie.

Finally, here’s one to make you smile…

Margaret: I am on train heading downtown to meet Dave for dinner. The conductor asked why I was dressed up. When I told him, he said “Wow. A date with a husband What a concept.”

What about YOU? What do you and your hubby (or wife) do on ‘date night’?

One rule: we treat our married date like a real date, especially coming with interesting things to talk about, and never any issues. We 100% leave issues for another time; that way, we always look forward to the date and every date becomes a strong-moment that builds beautiful memories!:D

At least once a month my husband and I invite friends and family over for dinner. The night before we usually stay up late cooking a big meal together. I really enjoy those nights. We stay up late cooking and laughing with a little music in the back ground. It’s fun!
