One of the joys of being married for 21 years is remembering all the special things John and I have done together. We’ve walked along the shores of Maine and climbed into a high lighthouse. There was a lighthouse in Oregon too. We must have taken three dozen photos from its rails.
We walked along a path through the Redwoods and stopped to watch a herd of elk in California. We strolled through a cemetery in Boston, kayaked through an inlet in the Bahamas, and toured a castle in Prague.
The amazing thing is that John and I never dreamed of traveling the world when we got married. It started when I joined him for work trips. Then John joined me on research trips. We went on mission trips and an anniversary cruise.
Marriage memories have been made in amazing ways in wondrous places, yet the trips we travel on together are enjoyed even more because the life that we have at home.
Couples cannot thrive on those “times away together.” But strong couples–who connect in ordinary ways during daily moments–can also find great joy in exploring the world together.
And what’s next for this couple? We’re talking about Alaska … but if that doesn’t happen you’ll be sure we’ll enjoy snuggling on the couch at home.
Love those pics Tricia. My husband and I have been married for 35 years. High school sweethearts! Married at 19! What were our parents thinking!
Tricia, my husband and I have been married way longer and have many wonderful memories. These days we know the real source of happiness is being together, knowing that every day is a gift from God.
