This week, Litfuse threw a party on Tricia’s social media while she was off on a cruise adventure. During the week, we asked readers to send us pictures answering the question: “Where in the world are you reading?” As a celebration of an awesome week of party fun, we chose to feature Mikal as our reader of the week!
What’s your name and where are you from?
Mikal Hermanns, Omaha, NE
Where in the world are you reading?
You can probably tell that my Kindle is perfectly propped on my steering wheel. That’s what I do when I’m waiting for my kids to get out of school! Parking is at a very high premium at their school, so I get there close to two hours before they’re out of school in order to grab a spot since they’re too little to walk out to the car line –– and believe it or not, I’m not the first one there! These parents are e-a-r-l-y! Bless them. Anyway, I spend those two hours reading (okay, probably more like an hour and fifteen minutes due to that pesky Facebook). In order to not have to put a kink in my neck by bending it to look at the Kindle, I prop it on my steering wheel so I can read comfortably. Other than my car, I read in bed at night for an hour or so after I get to bed, and on the couch during the day, although that’s only usually for a few minutes at a time.
Why did you choose this book?
I chose to read Songbird Under a German Moon because (1) I love Tricia Goyer’s books (I actually worked with her a little waaaay back in the very late 90s, early 00s when I was in Canada and she was writing a devotional for Focus on the Family, contracted under my employer … small world!), (2) I love WWII books and rarely have come across a novel that includes the USO –– an organization I think is great, and (3) I love romance and mystery. It’s a perfect combination!
Favorite hobby:
Writing! Reading! Sewing! Interior Decorating! COFFEE! But not necessarily in that order.
Least favorite chore:
Putting the laundry away!!! I don’t mind folding it, but asking me to take the two minutes to put it all away? No. That’s what my kids are for, right?
If you could be a character in Songbird Under a German Moon, who would you want to be and why?
Definitely Betty for a couple of reasons. First, I’m not going to lie, I’ve always wanted to be able to sing. (God didn’t bless me with a pretty noise … it’s just a joyful noise unto Him!) Second, the military have a very special place in my heart. I love that Betty is using her gift to go bless soldiers who have been fighting for what is right. I think we should all be using our gifts to serve God (I’m speaking to myself here, for sure!), then watch how God will use us! Too exciting. My third reason: I wouldn’t want to be Kat. (I’ll leave it at that so there aren’t any spoilers!)
Sandals or boots?
I’m a flip-flops girl all. the. time. For real. Even in the snow. But! My husband’s feathers get ruffled when I do that, so I humor him during the winter and wear Mary Jane’s. No boots for this girl!
If you found buried treasure chest, what would you hope is inside?
A genie for three wishes? Unlimited Starbucks? Hm … OH! Something to help my favorite authors crank out a new novel once a week. Yeah. I like that one.
P.S. Thanks for sharing what books you are looking forward to this year (my TBR pile tripled in size)! Congratulations to the winner of a surprise set of books, SALLY SULLIVAN! Please email your mailing address to elizabeth {at} litfusegroup {dot} com to claim your prize.
