MENTORING
I can clearly remember the day when I way praying about whether or not to help start a crisis pregnancy center. As I prayed God’s voice was clear.
“What about them?” I felt Him whisper to my soul. “What about the young women who face the difficulties that you faced as a young mom? What are you going to do to help them?”
I knew what God was asking me to do. First, I did help to start Hope Pregnancy Center. Second, I started a Teen MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) support group. I first ran this program in Montana. Now, I’ve been running it in Little Rock, Arkansas since 2010.
Why do I feel mentoring teen moms is so important? First, because I remember what it was like to be young and so unsure in my role as a mom. I am thankful for the women who came around me to support and encourage me, and I’m thankful that I can now do the same.
Also, God has called us older women to help younger women. As Titus 2:3-6 says, “Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior.”
