My Classic Cleaning Routine and Tips + Cleaning Supply Printable
I have favorite cleaning supplies that I’ve used for years. (Let’s call them “classic cleaners.”) I keep a list inside the cabinet in my cleaning closet inside a plastic sleeve. I use a dry erase marker to mark when I’m out of something, then I check it as I’m putting together my shopping list.
For items I need all the time (like paper towels, garbage bags, and toilet paper), I use Subscribe and Save via Amazon. Not only are these things delivered to my door, but I also save 15% when I subscribe to 5 or more items that arrive in the same month. (Moms know that ONE large package of paper towels and ONE large package of toilet paper means NO room for other groceries … not to mention my kids who get tired of walking after two aisles!)
I can’t come over and help you clean … I’ll be cleaning my own house. But, here is a printable Cleaning Supply Shopping List for you to print, post inside to your cupboard, and use all through the year.
My Classic Cleaning Routine and Tips
The Kitchen
First of all, I like to start in the kitchen. There are several things that can be done in stages and I can multitask. It gives me a quick fix and I love the instant results of seeing one of our most congested areas clean. Getting the kitchen clean gives me to boost I need to tackle the rest of the house.
One of my favorite methods for cleaning the kitchen is to start by loading the dishwasher and clearing out the sink. Next, I use a simple method for cleaning the microwave that does most of the work for me. It’s a recipe I found here that I think you’ll appreciate.
How To Clean Your Microwave Naturally with Just a Lemon
What You Need
- Small microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup
- 1 lemon
- Clean, dry dishtowel or cleaning rag
Instructions
- Measure the water: Measure about 1/2 cup of water into a measuring cup or bowl.
- Add the lemon: Slice the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the water. Drop the lemon halves into the bowl.
-
Microwave for 3 minutes: Place the bowl in the microwave. Microwave on high power for 3 minutes so the liquid comes to a boil.
- Let stand for 5 minutes: Do not open the microwave door; the steam trapped inside will help loosen food gunk. Let stand for 5 minutes.
- Clean the microwave: Open the door and carefully remove the bowl with the lemons. If your microwave has a turntable, lift it out and wipe it clean. Wipe the inside of the microwave clean starting with the ceiling and the sides.
- Scrub the stubborn spots: If you come across stubborn spots that won’t easily wipe away, dip the corner of your dishtowel in the lemon-water and scrub until the spot comes away.
-
Remember the door: While you’re wiping, don’t forget to wipe down the door.
- Replace the turntable: If you took it out, put the turntable back and you’re good to go — with a nice, clean microwave!
Grab a Bag or Box It Up
Secondly, I hate clutter. It drives me crazy to see things scattered all over the house. Especially when I know that everything has a place.
Here’s a great way to nab clutter as you clean–box it up. I like to use a spare laundry basket, bag, or box to grab miscellaneous items as I clean. Then, when I’m done with that area or room, I simply take the box with me to the next room. At this point, it’s easy to put away items where they belong as I go rather than making several trips back and forth from room to room. Consequently, this cuts down on steps and the time it takes to clean so I can get done and move on to other things.
