Earlier this month I announced the “My Favorite Memory” contest and asked you to send in your favorite childhood memories to be entered to win 1 of 10 copies of my new book Sweet September!
Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting those entries. What a treat it has been to read your stories!
Melinda:
I have so many wonderful memories from my childhood it’s hard to pick just one. I grew up in a loving, Christian family in Arkansas. Sounds are a big part of those memories. The sound the spoon made on the jar as Mama mixed up the Tang at breakfast, the screen door slamming, the creaking of the rocking chair when Mama rocked us as she read a story book, etc. I spent a lot of time outdoors. We had a wonderful mimosa tree in our front yard that had 3 different spots, a spot for each of us, perfect for sitting.
I spent many hours in that tree sitting in my special nook either reading a book or just daydreaming. Many adventures had their start in that tree! It’s fern like leaves became our fans when we were society ladies. The delicate pink feathery blooms were bouquets for our Barbie dolls, and the limbs, when pruned in the fall, became our forts or beaver dams. I think every child needs to have a climbing tree to stimulate their imaginations.
Contest ended August 31st. The winners will be announced September 5th!
