You can see my chair and computer where I spend many, many hours writing. Many, many hours. Many . . . never mind! LOL!
In the corner of my desk is the statue of a black bird. That’s a copy of the Maltese Falcon. My father won that for revealing “whodunnit” at a mystery dinner. When he passed away, the falcon became mine. It’s very special to me. The pictures next to it include a high-school picture of my son and a picture of my son, his wife, my husband, and me during our recent vacation to Branson. We had such a great time!
Although you can’t read it, the small stand-up note says: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” Jeremiah 29:11. This is a very special scripture to me. I keep it where I can always see it.
The clock in the picture belonged to my grandmother and grandfather Holderby. They helped to raise my brother and me. I think of them often. The clock helps me to keep them near. My ACFW Book of the Year Award for mystery is proudly displayed next to the clock. The book lying on my desk is The Pelican Brief by John Grisham. If you open it up, you’ll find it’s hollowed out. I like to hide things in there! LOL! The small card with the flower is from a ninety-year-old reader who wrote to tell me how much she loves my books. I’m planning a surprise visit to meet her.
Although people might think this is nuts, the gold candy dish with the lid holds dirt from my son’s yard. My heart is to live in Missouri so I can be near him, my daughter-in-law, and our grandson who will be born around Christmas. Having the dirt neaby helps me to keep that vision in front of me. And lastly, just in case anyone thinks I’m too serious, you can see my Warner Brothers cartoon desk calendar. My husband tells me it fits my personality!
Thanks to everyone for visiting my office. Hope you enjoyed it.

Nancy Mehl lives in Wichita, Kansas with her husband Norman, and her very active puggle, Watson. She’s authored thirteen books and is currently at work on a new romantic suspense series for Bethany House Publishing.
All of Nancy’s novels have an added touch – something for your spirit as well as your soul. “I welcome the opportunity to share my faith through my writing,” Nancy says. “It’s a part of me and of everything I think or do. God is number one in my life. I wouldn’t be writing at all if I didn’t believe that this is what He’s called me to do. I hope everyone who reads my books will walk away with the most important message I can give them: God is good, and He loves you more than you can imagine. He has a good plan especially for your life, and there is nothing you can’t overcome with His help.” She and her husband attend Believer’s Tabernacle in Wichita.
Nancy is giving away one copy of her latest book, Inescapable. Enter below using the Rafflecopter widget. Only those in the continental U.S. are eligible to win.
I really liked the tour of your office, it makes you seem more “real” to me. I particularly like reading how it’s important to you to have your readers know your spiritual stance. 🙂
Please enter me in your drawing, I am sharing on fb.
A great and inspirational story. My writing desk is like that. I think it’s important to keep yourself grounded as a writer. Thank you for sharing. I’d love to be entered.

Thanks for the look around…your desk is so neat and tidy. Question, did you clean it for the photo or do you always keep it tidy? I could never post a pic of my desk 😉
Also, please enter me for the book drawing.
Stacy…
Ummmmm. Sure, it’s always that clean! (Not!) LOL! To be honest, I do straighten my office quite a bit because I get distracted by a messy office. But when I’m on a deadline, all bets are off! Then it’s “Katy bar the door!” Everything stays where it lands until I press “Send” and my manuscript is on its way to my publisher.

I’d be sorry to see you leave Kansas, Nancy, but can totally understand you wanting to be nearer your son and his family. I pray this works out for you.
It would be a pleasure to win a copy of Inescapable. Thanks for the entry into the drawing.

Thanks, Pam. Yes, I miss my son so much. And my daughter-in-law has quickly become my daughter. Love her to pieces. Then there is my grandson. He will be making his grand entrance in a couple of months! I can hardly wait!
I have an entire room to myself…….for writing and reading. It is missing your book though. I will give it warm and cozy home. And regular page-turning exercise!!!
Sounds good to me, Judy! LOL!
Thanks for sharing! That is neat you have a clock that belonged to your grandmother and grandfather. 🙂
