Irene and Domingo Garcia have fostered or raised thirty-two children, many of whom have special needs. They worked in Special Ministries at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California and started the special needs ministry at Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California. That group is called F.A.M.S. ( Foster, adopt, mentor, and support).  Their prayer is God will open the hearts and homes of his people to provide for needy children in their own communities.

About Rich in Love

Irene and Domingo Garcia began their married lives at sixteen, already expecting a baby. Their first ten years together included Domingo’s alcoholism and abuse, and Irene’s desperate prayers for answers. Then a miracle happened: Domingo pleaded for forgiveness. As God healed their marriage, Irene and Domingo adopted a little girl. And a new season began for an imperfect couple who were willing to say yes to each other and to God. Their story holds difficult endings as well as promising new beginnings. Above all, their story reminds us what can happen when ordinary people submit to God’s call. Rich in Love is about a family cemented in hope. About a need to love the orphan. And about a God who never, ever gives up.

I can’t wait to listen to the pod cast. Okay, the way me and my family would try to help the community is by donating food to the food bank and donating our time to or churches CCD classes.

Our church reaches out to the children in our community by offering spiritual guidance and training and by also doing clothing giveaways once or twice a year. We also decorate our Christmas tree at church with mittens, gloves, scarves and socks and then take them to our local elementary school Resource Center after Christmas break is over. Our church also supports a Back-pack program that makes sure the children will have food to eat over the weekend by sending a backpack filled with food on Friday afternoon. As a Sunday School Teacher for over 35 years , I truly believe that a church must meet both spiritual and physical needs A child who is hungry or cold cannot understand why a loving God would allow that to happen!
