More about Upside Down Prayers:
Because God Loves Them Even More Than You Do
It’s our instinct as parents to shield our children from harm. But our true responsibility is to raise children equipped to live well for God even in the midst of struggle. Upside-Down Prayers for Parents encourages us to pray for our children in ways we may never have before:
• I pray you’ll get caught doing things wrong—and experience the power of confession.
• I pray your prayers will go unanswered—and you’ll find a deeper trust in Him.
• I pray you’ll fail in things that don’t matter—and learn what matters to God.
• I pray you’ll encounter battles—and discover that God is your greatest ally.
By turning our prayers “upside down,” we not only learn to release our children to the care of God alone, we also uncover how our own desires need to be submitted to God’s will.
Each entry in this thirty-one-day devotional includes a short reflection, a Scripture verse, and ideas to jump-start conversations between you and your child or teenager. Together you’ll discover a deeper trust in God that will help you make it through the upside-down times with a right-side-up perspective.
“Lisa Bergren offers wise counsel, clear direction, and brilliant insights into how to pray in a way that shapes your child’s character. Every mom needs this book! It will become a resource you will refer to often during your child’s formative years and beyond.”
—Robin Jones Gunn, author of the Christy Miller series and Praying for Your Future Husband
“I love this book! These prayers confirm what I’ve learned in my twenty-three years as a mom: that sometimes it’s the hard moments that bring about the heart-transformation in our kids. These are prayers to wrestle through—and find God in the midst of them. Highly recommended!”
—Tricia Goyer, author of Blue Like Play Dough: The Shape of Motherhood in the Grip of God
More about Ted: Ted Cunningham is the founding pastor of Woodland Hills Family Church in Branson, MO. He is the author of Trophy Child and Young and In Love and coauthor of four books with Dr. Gary Smalley: The Language of Sex; From Anger to Intimacy; Great Parents, Lousy Lovers and As Long as We Both Shall Live. He is a graduate of Liberty University and Dallas Theological Seminary. Ted and his wife, Amy, have been married for 15 years and live in Branson, MO with their two children, Corynn and Carson.
More about Trophy Child:
Do you cringe when your kids fight in public because it makes you look bad? Do you find yourself helping too much with homework because you want the teacher to be impressed? Do you secretly take credit for your child’s dance recital, soccer win, or spelling bee crown? You might be in danger of vanity parenting.
Vanity parenting happens when our culture’s obsession with performance leads us to form expectations for our kids based on the world’s standards, not on the Bible. As a result, our children try to meet our emotional needs instead of growing into the calling God has for them.
Trophy Child will help you create a home where your children find success in following their heavenly Father’s leading for them—and you know the joy of seeing your children embrace their full potential as children of God.
cannot wait to get into these books!
As a mother of three young children, I would love to win one of these wonderful books!
My deepest desire is to always shield my children, especially my six year old daughter who has the most severe form of asthma. I have to work very hard to release these fears and turn over their protection to Him. A book that could help me through prayer would be such a blessing. Congratulations on your new releases!
Looks like a great and challenging book. I need to get it.
