Do you have a favorite author? Do you want to see more books from that author? The best way to ensure that author gets more book contracts is to help the author get more book sales. And the best way to get book sales is for YOU to spread the word.
If you’re interested in helping an author spread the word about his or her book, here’s how! <click to tweet>
- Review the book
- Do a video review
- Share photos of yourself reading the book (or of your baby holding the book—adorable!)
- Ask your local bookstore to carry the book (and recommend it to readers!)
- Recommend the book to reading groups
- Ask your library to order it for its shelves
- Buy the book for your friend’s birthday
- Tweet your favorite lines from the book
- Ask the author for bookmarks. Many have ones you can share, and they are happy to mail them to you
- Attend a booksigning if the author is coming near you.
- Add the book on your Goodreads shelf and add the author’s book on a list
- Offer to host the author on your blog
- Join a launch team. Many authors have teams of people who help them spread the word during the first month of a book’s release
- Connect with the author on Facebook and Twitter
- Pin the cover of the book on Pinterest
- Create Pinterest images with quotes from the book
- Finally, talk about the book. Most people buy books because of word-of-mouth.
Now, what about you? What are your favorite ways to tell others about your favorite books?
P.S. I love what this author has done. So creative! Can I be this video savvy when I grow up?
Perfect timing, Tricia! I appreciate the ideas to implement for the authors I’m an influencer for.
Blessings,
Andrea
So glad I could help. Thank you for all you do!
Sure thing!
I love sharing books on Good Reads. I’m also on a street team and that’s a fun way of meeting new people as well as promoting books
I have had street teams (launch teams), and I’ve really enjoyed the interaction!
Thanks for all the great ideas! I try to tell friends about great authors and suggest them to my book club. I also pin the covers of books I’ve read on Pinterest. Love your books!!
Thank you so much, Katie!
Thank you for sharing this list. I’m going to pin it so I can refer back to it.
You’re welcome, friend!
I work in a bookstore so that makes it easy for me to share about the books I love! I’ve also started keeping a list on Goodreads as well. Recently, I’ve started trying to review books as well. Thanks for the ideas! I definitely already do some of these but some others I might start doing as well!
Great ideas, Tricia! I love recommending books to my friends. It benefits both my friend and the author! I love the idea of posting my favorite lines on Facebook and making pins for Pinterest. I’m reading a great book right now and I came across a beautiful line I’d love to share. Thanks for the idea!
Love, love, love this!
Thank you.
Dabney
Great post Tricia and thanks for the links!
As a YA author, it’s especially important to connect with readers in the social networking sites they inhabit. Vlogs are a great way to do that. Another wonderful way for readers to spread the word is through fan art. You see this a lot in the YA fandom. And as an author, I LOVE seeing my characters through the readers’ lens.
I am going to be an influencer for Melissa Jagears new book! Thank you for your article on how to do that!
