Why did you write this book?
Plummet is one of my stand-alone Seatbelt Suspense® novels. All of these novels carry a four-point brand promise. They are: fast-paced, character-driven, with myriad twists, and an interwoven thread of faith. In Plummet, the main character, Cara, who is new to her job, is forced to help her boss hide the body of a woman he’s murdered. Cara was an abused child who ended up in an abusive marriage. Now she’s freshly divorced and on her own with a 13-year-old daughter, who is fragile and is being bullied at school. Underlying the tense suspense is a look at how someone who’s been abused can rise above her “victim” mentality to find strength. If she doesn’t rise above, how can she ever teach her daughter to be strong?
What surprised you the most as you researched or wrote it?
I wasn’t so much surprised as I had my belief reinforced that children don’t imitate what you say, they imitate what you do. The best gift we can give our children is to model for them what it looks like to be a mother/father who daily walks with Christ and spreads that Christian wisdom and love to others.
What do you think will surprise readers the most?
As I noted, my Seatbelt Suspense® is known for its twists. And I won’t give any of them away. :]
What’s the most important lesson or message readers will get from it?
True strength and wisdom come from following Christ. We can wander very far from His path. But He always wants to bring us back.
What do you hope will come from others reading it?
I want my readers to enjoy the tense plot and get caught up in the characters’ lives. And when the book is done, I want them to remember the book because it is a good story, and it carries a message that they can embrace and use to change their own lives.
What are you working on now?
Looking for the next suspense idea!
More about Plummet
“Do not think at this moment, Cara Westling.
Concentrate on nothing but saving your life.
You want your daughter to be without a father and a mother?”
Cara Westling, a newcomer to the small town of Payton, Idaho, is grateful she’s landed employment with the highly respected J.L. Larrett. A victim of abuse both from her father and ex-husband, Cara is struggling to build her own self esteem-and a new life for herself and her troubled thirteen-year-old daughter, Riley.
But J.L. Larrett is not the man people think they know.
One week into the job, J.L. forces Cara to do the unthinkable—help him hide the body of a woman he’s murdered. If Cara refuses, she could pay with her life.
If she obeys, the stain on her soul may be more than she can bear.
