Writers Wednesday with Robin Lee Hatcher: Where Writer’s Write

For the majority of my writing career, I’ve written using a desktop computer, first in my bedroom and later in an office in my home. Only in recent years have I migrated to writing more often on my laptop while sitting in my favorite easy chair.
Still, my office remains the center of my work life. It’s set up with a “standing desk” that can be raised and lowered so I’m able to work while sitting down or standing up. Along with my iMac computer, I have a second monitor. This allows me to have a number of apps open and visible at the same time. This is the most valuable when I’m in the revision stage and need to track so much information at the same time.
In addition to writing more on my laptop these days, I also often write in silence when for many years I wrote with background music playing. The first thing I often noticed, when seeing a new movie, used to be whether or not the soundtrack would be a great one to play while I wrote. I haven’t done that in a year or two.
I don’t have much in the way of writing habits. I tend to be a morning writer who has to clear out her inbox before I can open my writing app (Scrivener) and get started on my day. I take a break every hour, sometimes spending ten minutes or so on the treadmill while I get thoughts in order and work out any kinks in my body.
When I’m not writing new words, I’m trying to stay on top of the “business of writing.” That can mean many things: Writing a blog post like this one. Answering emails from my publisher or agent. Keeping up with bookkeeping. Promoting a new book.
I am currently writing toward the end of the third book in the Legacy of Faith series and gearing up for the release of the second, Cross My Heart. Before long, there will be a lot more clutter from both endeavors.

Best-selling novelist Robin Lee Hatcher, the author of more than 75 books, is known for her heartwarming and emotionally charged stories of faith, courage, and love. Robin is an eleven-time finalist and two-time winner of the prestigious RITA® Award. In addition to the RITA and many other awards, she is the recipient of Lifetime Achievement Awards from both Romance Writers of America® and American Christian Fiction Writers, When not writing, she enjoys being with her family, spending time in beautiful Idaho outdoors, Bible art journaling, reading books that make her cry, watching romantic movies, and decorative planning. A mother and grandmother, Robin and her husband make their home on the outskirts of Boise, sharing it with a demanding Papillon puppy named Boo and a persnickety tuxedo cat named Pinky.

More about Cross My Heart

“Hatcher writes with realism and compassion about how hope and healing can grow from our deepest wounds.” —Beth K. Vogt, Christy Award-winning author
Can two broken paths lead toward God’s redemption?
When Ashley Showalter and Ben Henning meet on Ashley’s horse rescue farm, they quickly discover how much they have in common. Both were raised by single moms. Both want to help where they see a need. And both work with horses in the Boise valley. Ben needs Ashley’s help and expertise after starting an equine therapy barn on his great-great-grandfather’s farm—and the more time they spend together, both Ashley and Ben have the feeling that there could be something more between them.
They also carry the burden of past experiences that may drive them apart if the truth is ever revealed. Ben is a recovering alcoholic with five years of sobriety behind him, while Ashley’s brother is an opioid addict residing in court-ordered rehab. Holding fast to the belief that addicts can never be cured, Ashley has promised herself she will never walk knowingly into the chaos created by addiction. Ben knows that with God, all things are possible—but will Ashley find it within herself to give love a chance? Or will her brother’s mistakes and the pain of her past jeopardize her future with Ben?
Cross My Heart threads together a contemporary love story with the heartwarming tale of Ben’s great-great-grandfather, Andrew Henning—reminding us that God’s Word is timeless and that His promises are new every morning.
