Welcome Home with Myquillyn Smith
I used to take such pride in having a beautiful home … and then John and I adopted seven more kids. My house is still nice, but very lived in. There are always shoes kicked off by the front door, piles of books on the dining room table (where we homeschool), and mountains of clothes in the laundry room.
I used to believe that to invite someone in my house it had to be perfect in order to be beautiful. Since that’s unattainable, I got so excited as I talked with Myquillyn. We talked about incorporating beauty into our real-life homes in very simple ways.
Myquillyn says that it has taken her twenty years to pay attention to how her family uses their home differently through the year. She and I talk about how to get inspiration from the seasons to bring beauty and joy into our home. My favorite thing that we talked about was recognizing each season and letting our homes reflect the seasons as they come is a way to cultivate life-giving homes that feel connected to the world. (Don’t you love that!) If you ready to feel inspired (and not overwhelmed) about making your home a welcoming place, I know you’re going to LOVE this podcast!
Who is Myquillyn Smith?
For the last twelve years, Myquillyn Smith, known online as “The Nester,” has encouraged women to embrace their homes – imperfections and all. With her signature tagline, “it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful,” Myquillyn has empowered fans to see their home’s hidden potential and create beautiful, functional spaces they love.
Myquillyn is a self-taught, design school dropout who took a week-long course so she could be a certified home stager and redesigner. She and her family have lived in 13 different houses, apartments and condos and spent plenty of time getting real world design experience. Millions of women have been inspired by Myquillyn’s blog, The Nesting Place and her home has been featured in Better Homes & Gardens, Ladies’ Home Journal, Cottages and Bungalows and the Charlotte Observer.
