A Life of Prayer with Sheila Walsh
On today’s episode, we’re talking about a life of prayer with Sheila Walsh, author of new book Praying Women. Sheila Walsh is a powerful communicator, Bible teacher, and bestselling author with more than 5 million books sold. She is the author of the award-winning Gigi, God’s Little Princess and In the Middle of the Mess. She is cohost of LIFE Today with James and Betty Robison. Sheila She lives in Dallas, Texas, with her husband, Barry, their son, Christian, and their TWO pups, Tink and Maggie.
Many know the name Sheila Walsh, and we’ve all been blessed through her Bible teachings and heart-hitting lesson, but the beautiful messages we are drawn to come from a place of brokenness. And in that brokenness, Sheila found comfort and strength through prayer.
As we chatted, Sheila shared the misconceptions she had about prayer and her battle with depression that she calls, “a dark winter to the soul.” Sheila relates from the heart of someone who has faced dark pain, and yet still turns to God … even if it’s just with the simple whisper of, “Jesus.”
During our talk, tears sprang to my eyes many times as Sheila shared about how she learned through the years what true prayer is about. I love the story she tells about Agnes, who prayed for his wife for over forty years. As a young girl, Sheila asked Anges how he could still believe God would answer his prayers, even after such a long time. Anges’ answer is one we all need to cling to: “He has not failed me yet, lass, and I don’t reckon He’ll start now.”
Sheila shares what prayer means to her, and encourages us—when we don’t know what to pray—to go to the Psalms. “Psalms are God’s prayer book,” she told me. “The Psalms were Jesus’ weapon of choice.”
As you listen, Sheila’s heart comes through for her readers. Why did she write this book? “I pray that by the end of this book readers will be more in love with Jesus,” she says, “and they’ll realize how much heaven is in love with them.”
