I remember the first time I heard about children who were rescued from Czechoslovakia during WWII. I was on my first mission trip to the Czech Republic, and I told the Czech pastors that we were working with that I was interested in World War II. They took us to various sites around their village and a memorial to the Jews there who were lost during the war.
Later, back at our hosts’ home, Gabi—the pastor’s wife—told us about a man she knew who was rescued as a child during the war. Thomas was just 8-years-old when his mother put him on a train headed to England to save his life. The story stuck with me for years, even when I was busy writing other books.
And then I came across this video. Watch it, and you’ll get chills!
This is the novel that I wanted to write for years, and I’m thankful that I was able to share this amazing story. I cried real tears as I wrote, imagining what it would be like to put my children on a train—knowing I would never see them again—waiting to save their lives.
Here is a review of A Daring Escape from Amazon:
I’ve been a longtime fan of Tricia’s historical fiction. This one doesn’t disappoint. We see a heartbreaking, intriguing, and inspiring facet of WWII as refugees and ordinary heroes work together to survive in Czechoslovakia. I love historical fiction that makes me do my own research to learn more. This story did just that.
As an author, I love to be able to highlight true moments in history. Even more amazing is to be able to highlight true people.
