My Unexpected God Gifts!
There were three things that I wasn’t going to have at our Thanksgiving table:
- Deviled eggs
- Jello Salad
- A Large green salad
Well, it turns out we ended up with two out of three on our table, and I didn’t make either! First, I got a text Wednesday night. My neighbor Cindy said that her husband was going to stop by with something for us. Bruce came by with … a jello salad! Cindy had been planning to make one herself and after reading my email she decided to make one for us, too. How fun is that?!
Then Thursday, John and I took the three youngest kids to serve at our church’s Thanksgiving Community Dinner. We had a great time hosting a cake walk and various games for the dozens and dozens of kids. One of the moms from our Teen MOPS group even helped with face painting!
When we got home that afternoon I walked in to find our 20-year-old son Nathan putting the finishing touches on deviled eggs. He made them as a surprise! He hadn’t even read my email, but he knew how much everyone would appreciate them. Double cool! (No, the green salad never did get made, but our full tummies didn’t miss it!)
I had to chuckle as I thought about how things had turned out. Isn’t that how God works?
God is the best gift giver, isn’t He? When we’re looking for Him in the midst of everyday life He loves to surprise us in fun ways. He knows the desires of our hearts, and He often brings people into our lives to provide the unexpected. Missing out on jello salad or deviled eggs wouldn’t have been a big deal. But how fun that God used my friends and family in that way.

God’s gifts are all around us. From the very air we breathe to the lovely sun shine that we have today. It’s a gift from God also when he provides us with the opportunity to make someone else happy at Christmas time. Last night he gave me that opportunity. At church we have a missionary Christmas Tree. On it are different names of missionaries in white envelopes. I picked out one from the tree and my missionary is in Puerto Rico. So I will be sending him a gift today. Along with the gift I will write words of encouragement and promises of prayers for his mission work there. I will enclose my email address so he can get in touch with me over time with more prayer requests.
Blessings
Shirley
