28 Days of Prayer with Chrystal Evans Hurst
Friends, I’m so excited to talk to Chrystal Evans Hurst today!
But first, how is your prayer life? You may pray … but do you STOP to pray?
It’s easy to stay busy, fill our schedule, and never stop to rest. But what does this do to our souls? For me, staying busy can be an escape from all that’s happening on the inside—worries, anxieties, and fears.
I suspect that this is one reason why for many years I had a hard time sitting still before God. I had a morning routine that involved Bible reading and prayer, but my quiet time was more about the activity than the relationship. Even then I was busy “doing.” I focused on Bible study homework, prayed through a prayer list, and read through a yearly Bible reading plan. Sometimes my quiet time turned into work time when a Scripture verse gave me an idea for a devotional article or a blog.
Like everything else “time with God” was another thing to mark off my to-do list. My soul was yet another thing that “needed to be fixed.” The thing is, the spiritual life doesn’t work that way. You and I can’t become a better person by finding the right recipe for prayer or marking off a list of spiritual disciplines. We can’t manufacture understanding or compassion for others by will power. We can’t produce the fruit of the Spirit by rolling up our sleeves. We best experience love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control when we invite the Holy Spirit to have access to every part of our hearts. If anything should be on our to-do list it’s this: connect with Jesus. Fall deeper in love with Him.
My guest on today’s podcast is the amazing Chrystal Evans Hurst, and we will be talking about how pausing to pray transformed her life. What started as a 28-day Instagram challenged became a touchstone–a way for Chrystal’s heart to connect with God. My hope is that our conversation will ignite your prayer life in amazing ways!

About the Book:
We know from Scripture that prayer is essential to an intimate and thriving relationship with God, but often we simply don’t know how or what to pray. Many of us feel inhibited with group prayer or praying out loud. Chrystal Evans Hurst knows both the freedom and literal blessing of establishing and growing your prayer life, and how difficult it can be when prayer itself feels a bit foreign.
In this video-based Bible study (DVD/downloads sold separately), Chrystal teaches us the basic tenets of prayer practice and establishes a realistic and doable pattern of prayer to be applied to our daily life for 28 days with lasting effect. She then dives deep into four postures of prayers that increase our communication and relationship with God. After you have prayed in one posture for an entire week, Chrystal will break down that posture and walk through the biblical references supporting it to draw the connections between your growing relationship with God and the practice of prayer.
This study includes daily prayer practices, space to journal about your prayers and what you are hearing from God, as well as challenges each week to keep yourself from distraction and give prayer the time it deserves.
Sessions include:
- Introduction to Types of Prayer and Practice
- Prayers of Thanksgiving
- Prayers of Repentance
- Prayers of Request
- Prayers of Yielding
Designed for use with The 28-Day Prayer Journey Video Study (sold separately).
