The Heart Between Us!
What was your favorite book as a child?
I was a voracious reader as a kid; I read everything I could get my hands on. It’s hard to pinpoint one specific book that was my favorite, but I absolutely devoured the Little House on the Prairie books, Anne of Green Gables, and anything in the Baby-Sitters Club series.
What book did you read that first made you want to be an author?
I dreamed of being an author since I was a child—in fact, I wrote countless “books” that were really just a stack of paper folded over and stapled. But in high school, I decided that being an author was too competitive and I didn’t think I could make it. I think part of that was just not knowing what I would write or how my writing would fit into the market. But when I discovered Christian fiction for the first time—after reading Francine Rivers’ Redeeming Love—I finally found my niche. That story moved me so powerfully that it made me want to write books that would do the same for others.
What was the last book you read, just for fun?
I am currently reading Kristy Cambron’s The Lost Castle and LOVING IT! Her writing is so gorgeous.
What books are currently on your nightstand?
I’ve got a variety of fiction and non-fiction books on my nightstand, though I usually plod through non-fiction—I like to digest it in small chunks. Right now there’s Lysa TerKeurst’s Made to Crave, Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study, Laura Frantz’s The Lacemaker, and Sara Ella’s Unblemished series. As you can tell, I have eclectic tastes when it comes to genres!
What upcoming release are you most looking forward to?
Oh man, that is so hard, because there are so many good books. I’m going to cheat and not pick just one. I can’t WAIT to read Katie Ganshert’s No One Ever Asked, Rachel Hauck’s The Love Letter, and Beth Vogt’s Things I Never Told You.
More about The Heart Between Us
Megan Jacobs always wished for a different heart. Her entire childhood was spent in and out of hospitals, sitting on the sidelines while her twin sister Crystal played all the sports, got all the guys, and had all the fun. But even a heart transplant three years ago wasn’t enough to propel Megan’s life forward. She’s still working as a library aide and living with her parents in her small Minnesota hometown, dreaming of the adventure she plans to take “once she’s well enough.” Meanwhile, her sister is a successful architect with a handsome husband and the perfect life—or so Megan thinks.
When her heart donor’s parents give Megan their teenage daughter’s journal—complete with an unfulfilled bucket list—Megan connects with the girl she meets between the pages and is inspired to venture out and check off each item. Caleb—a friend from her years in and out of the hospital—reenters her life and pushes her to find the courage to take the leap and begin her journey. She’s thrown for a loop when Crystal offers to join her for reasons of her own, but she welcomes the company and the opportunity to mend their tenuous relationship.
As Megan and Crystal check items off the bucket list, Megan fights the fears that have been instilled in her after a lifetime of illness. She must choose between safety and adventure and learn to embrace the heart she’s been given so that she can finally share it with the people she loves most.
