Books Authors Read

What was your favorite book as a child?

My parents had a lot of books and kept children’s books on hand for my older sister and me, so I was fortunate to be raised in a family that valued reading. I grew up in rural Alaska and we didn’t have television during my preschool and early elementary days. My parents and grandparents were business partners, so one of the ways my grandmother kept me entertained (and out of our restaurant where I was probably underfoot) during my preschool years was to read to me. I fell in love with stories at a very early age and couldn’t wait to go to school and learn to read. One of the books I adored was The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton. I have fond memories of listening to the story over and over.

What book did you read that first made you want to be an author?

There are two authors who factored into my desire to be an author: Janette Oke’s Love Comes Softly was the first Christian fiction I recall reading. After that, I was hooked, and my sister and I devoured all of her work. Then someone gave me a copy of Catherine Marshall’s Julie, and I was captivated. That’s when I really remember telling myself that I’d write a novel one day, too.

What was the last book that you read just for fun?

I just read Matchmaking for Beginners by Maddie Dawson. So funny and clever. The characterization was brilliant, as well.

What books are currently on your nightstand?

The Love Letter by Rachel Hauck

Send Down the Rain Charles Martin

The Summer List Amy Mason Doan

The Ones We Choose Julie Clark

Hurricane Season Lauren K. Denton

What upcoming release are you most looking forward to?

I have thoroughly enjoyed Susan May Warren’s Montana Rescue series, and I can’t wait to read the next book, which is Wait for Me. I believe it releases in November.

A formula for her new family?

Since his wife left, fireman Shay Campbell has focused on work and his twin toddlers. But the lovely Natalie McDowell is making him rethink that decision. She’s great with his boys, and they adore her. But he can’t go through losing someone again. Will a dream job offer win Natalie’s heart, or does it belong to Shay and the twins?
